Spring 2007 Game 6 FSFC 4 vs Mercenaries 2

I got this email from Rusty this morning

Hey I am glad that Joe Lopez worked out this weekend and I have another guy that I would like to bring out this weekend- He is 25 and was an All American in college and is just looking for a team to play on. He is a very good friend of mine and I think his name is Robert. He looks like a youngster that could provide us with the youth our team is lacking. Let me know what you guys think. I attached a photo from his college playing days.

Game Summary

1st Half

The joy of soccer in the cold. Things get off to a pretty even start with both teams trading shots and bad passes. The Mercenaries are an overconfident team that thinks they are much better than they are. 20 minutes in they win a corner and the ball gets tangled in a mass of bodies and comes straight to Darilect. Darilect literally taps the ball right to the other team who gets an easy shot and even easier goal.

The rest of the second half both sides trade shots with the mercenaries cathching a post on a cross and plenty of misses. The defense holds strong and doesn't give up any more goals. The offense is getting its shots and the constant subbing begins to tire out the other team

Halftime FSFC 0 Merc 1

The FSFC decide to pick up the pace a bit and bring on some additional physicality. 10 minutes in Rusty gets whacked in the box earning the Stars a PK. Luckily PBlische was on the bench allowing KBlische to take the PK. KBlische easily beats the keeper.

FSFC 1 Mercenaries 1

The Mercenaries put pressure on the defense as they are pressing for a goal. The guy that has no left foot dribbles down the sideline and two defenders are unable to stop him. Speetey makes a slide tackle to steal the ball but doesn't kick the ball hard enough. Guy gets the ball back and crosses it over the middle, Lilly gets a hand on it and somehow Darilect screws up again and they get another tap in goal.

FSFC 1 Darilects 2

Nothing like another hole to claw out of- The FSFC decide to counter right down the middle of the defense. Pblische and others are getting mauled by the sweeper and no calls are happening. Ball gets played into #19 with the sweeper on his back, #19 chest trap and one touches it past the defense to a streaking KBlische. Kblische gets in 1 on 1 and buries the goal. The ref thinks it misses b/c of the hole in the net and finally figures it out.

FSFC 2 Sweeper Blows 2

The FSFC continue the physical play and are pretty much controlling the game now and the mercenaries are pissed. How is it possible the FSFC are scoring? F them and their disrespect- They attack some more and Lilly is on fire making saves. Lilly stops a breakaway, makes a diving save on an open shot- Kid is on fire.
Pblische gets sent free for another breakaway- Pblische hits a flubber that the keeper gets a hand on but the ball ends in the net

FSFC 3 Sweeper Blows Jihad 2

The game gets going some more and Jihad is damn near dying on the field and for 10 minutes the ball doesn't go out of bounds. The FSFC are shutting down just about everything the Mercs are trying to do. With about 6 minutes left Romo takes on the sweeper and the FB- Romo deftly bounces the FB to the ground and is all alone with the keeper. Romo deftly places the ball into the back of the net ending the game.

Goal of the Game: Kblische- #19 with the chest trap and one touch to set Kblische up with a breakaway which he easily finishes

Quote of the Game: Romo "I am way to fat for this little guy to stop me" Romo after scoring the game winner and bouncing the FB to the ground.

Foul of the Game: None

Goat of the Game: Darilect and his setting the ball on the tee for the first goal. It was like blind people playing teeball with darilect ringing the bell so they no where the ball is
